The selection of this program will take place in a single phase. The requirements for applying to the program are:

  • Applicants must be 20 to 28 years old
  • Either (a) in the last 2 years of Undergraduate studies or (b) already having already graduated and with no more than 3 years of professional experience.
  • They must be studying/have studied in a university/college in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Spain, Poland, Portugal, UK or USA.
  • They must be studying/have studied an Undergraduate Degree in STEM (Sciences, Technology, Engineering and/or Mathematics).*[see FAQs]

 The selection criteria for assigning places are:

  • Academic qualifications:

-In case you are in the last two years of the degree, average the grade of the previous years,

-In case you have already graduated, final grade average.

  • High level of English.
  • Answers to the application form.
  • Answer to the question: "Under what circumstances, if any, do you think a financial institution should apply Artificial Intelligence for lending decisions?. This question must be answered (a) in a one-minute video of maximum length or (b) through a text of a maximum of 600 words.

The Santander Tech Revolution in Finance - IE University Scholarship offers students and young professionals trained in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) the chance to take a course that helps them discover the potential of the financial sector for STEM profiles and that provides them the basic tools to understand the driving forces and challenges of financial innovation in a digital context.

This program offers 100 scholarships for students in their last 2 years of Degree and young professionals with no more than 3 years of professional experience, who are studying/have studied at a university in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Spain, Poland, Portugal, UK, and USA.

Through this high impact online program (HIOP), developed by Professors from IE Human Sciences and Technology School and delivered exclusively in English, participants will learn to handle concepts such as cloud computing, cryptocurrency, artificial intelligence, and big data applied to financial markets, shared economy, or digital management of investment funds.

Applications’ deadline: September 23rd, 2020 at 23:59 GMT+2 (Madrid time zone). The allocation of places to participants will take place on October 13th and we will communicate this assignment to the participant, who will have 5 calendar days from the date and time of the communication to accept the scholarship, all through the website

After this period, in case there are places assigned that have not been accepted by the participants, the Selection Committee will assign them in identical conditions to other participants who meet the requirements for obtaining them. Likewise, if the demand for places exceeds the offer of seats, the Selection Committee may assess other selection criteria it deems appropriate.

Selection Process/Agents: The Selection Committee –formed by 1 agent from IE Foundation, 1 agent from Banco Santander S.A., and 1 agent from the Social Impact Area of Santander Universidades from Banco Santander S.A.- will be responsible for the monitoring of the compliance of the previously indicated criteria based upon the personal data of the applicants filled in the application form.

Structure of the program: The Tech Revolution in Finance HIOP is a 100% online 5-weeks course, delivered only in English. This course has an introduction and 5 modules:

0.    Introduction to the course: digitalization in finance, Cloud computing as support of tech revolution, Technology foundations

1.    Payments: Introducing Cashless worlds and non-traditional payments schemes (block chain, cryptocurrencies, mobile money)

2.    Capital Markets (I): big data, machine learning, AI in banking, quantum computing

3.    Capital Markets (II): disaggregating forces, IoT, wearable computing

4.    Deposits, lending & Capital raising: Alternative lending platforms, P2P lending, shifting customer preferences, crowdfunding, smart contracts

5.    Investment management: Empowered investors and Next-generation of process externalization (Capacity sharing, HFT: High Frequency Trading)

  • What is a High Impact Online Program?

    A High Impact Online Program (HIOP) is a 100% online program created by IE Exponential Learning of five weeks in which participants must dedicate between 6 and 8 hours per week, designed to maximize learning and the application of new concepts and tools.

  • What does STEM mean?

    STEM is an English acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. These four branches of knowledge cover a considerable number of university degrees, among which are Computer Engineering, Nanoscience, Genetics, Chemistry, Physics, Robotics, Naval Engineering, Electronics, Architecture, Statistics, among others.

  • What are the deadlines for registration, evaluation, and notification of the scholarship?

    Enrolment: It starts on Wednesday, 1st July and finishes on Wednesday, 23rd September, at 23:59 GMT+2 (Madrid time zone).

    Evaluation: It starts on Thursday, 24th September and finishes on Friday, 9th October.

    Notification: Tuesday, 13th October.

  • Are there any Low-Income criteria for this program?

    Yes! Candidates who mark on the questionnaire that they have a certificate of low income must attach it to their application (check the valid documents in the section "documents relating to the scholarship"). The selection committee may allocate up to 50% of the scholarships to low-income applicants, if they meet the criteria for eligibility and excellence.

  • Do I have to pay anything at some point?

    No, the scholarship covers the 100% of the course tuition and the certificate.
