This scholarships’ program, offered by Santander in collaboration with IE Foundation, offers the opportunity to take a trendsetter High Impact Online Program developed by IE Law School to boost and improve the digital and technological skills of the lawyers and policy makers of the future, and to provide them with the basic tools to understand the driving forces and challenges of legal innovation in a digital era.

Requisitos

The selection criteria for assigning places are:

First phase:

  • Academic average grade: (a) In case you are on your last year of Bachelor, average grade of your previous years, (b) in case you have already graduated, final average grade.
  • Intermediate – Native level of English
  • Being either currently be in the last year of undergraduate Law studies or have graduated of Law studies within five years of the official cohort start date at a university or educational center in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, Spain, the United Kingdom, or the United States of America.

Second phase: those who make the cut of the first phase will have to send to digitaldna@mail.becas-santander.com the following:

  • A copy of your university transcript (if you have already finished your Law Degree) or a complete transcript of the previous years (if you are on your last year). In both cases, it is recommended that the transcripts include the average provided in the first phase.
  • Applicant's CV
  • A maximum 600 words text or (b) a link to a video of yourself (Youtube, Vimeo, DailyMotion, etc.) that does not exceed one minute. Both options will have to be delivered exclusively in English and will have to answer the following question: “Which circumstances, if any, might currently justify the use of facial recognition for remote biometric identification?”
  • Low income document (if applicable)

This scholarship program, which is part of Santander Scholarships | Digital Skills, will select in its first phase 100 outstanding profiles of university students from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, Spain, the United Kingdom, or the United States of America, that may qualify for a Santander IE Tech4Law Scholarship.

The 100 selected students will receive training from the faculty of IE Law School, one of the schools of IE University.

The Santander IE Tech4Law program consists of one Hiop (High Impact Online Program) course of 5 weeks exclusively in English. This course, Legal tech, will foster the development of digital and technological skills of the lawyers and policy makers of the future, as well as provide them with the basic tools to understand the driving forces and challenges of legal innovation in a digital era. 

In addition, 10 scholarship grantees will participate in a selection process for professional internships at Banco Santander, and will be given the chance to join the Banco Santander team.

With the aim of enhancing the employability of university students, the 250 finalists of the Santander IE Tech4Law program who finally do not get a place, will be able to access a MOOC training program on 'Intelligence Tools for Digital Age' of IE University on the platform Coursera. Both institutions will finance the certificate of said course that will allow them to make their profiles and abilities stand out in future selection processes. It is important to note that this course will also only be offered in English.

Additionally, IE Foundation and IE Law School will offer 1 scholarship to fully cover the tuition for the Master in Legal Tech to the Santander IE Tech4Law scholarship grantees. The applicants will be evaluated according to their performance in the Legal Tech HIOP and will also have to fit the admissions criteria of the Master and those of the IE Foundation Scholarships Board. The rest of the expenses associated to the Master will be responsibility of the awarded grantee.

  • Do I have to pay anything?

    No, the scholarship covers the 100% of the course tuition.

  • Do I have to go somewhere to take the course?

    No, the course Legal Tech is a 100% online program.

  • Can I apply to the scholarship if I haven't studied my Law Degree in one of the following countries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, Spain, the United Kingdom, or the United States?

    No, only those who have studied Law at a university or college in one of those 9 countries are eligible.

  • Do I need a specific academic background?

    Yes, eligible applicants must (a) currently be in their last year of undergraduate Law studies or (b) have graduated of Law studies within five years of the official cohort start date at a university or educational center.

  • What is a HIOP?

    A High Impact Online Programs (HiOP) is a 100% online program created by IE Exponential Learning of five weeks in which participants must dedicate between 6 and 8 hours per week, designed to maximize learning and the application of new concepts and tools.

    The courses are designed using a diversity of relevant, state-of-the-art content. At the same time, emphasis is placed on the selection of resources and dynamics to be used so that the learning experience, the commitment on the participant's side and the degree of understanding of the subject are maximised.

    Throughout the program, the participant will be accompanied by the program direction and will also have multiple opportunities to interact with the academic team, including three live videoconferences with the teacher.

  • Can I apply without a high English level?

    Due to the technical content of the course and the fact that it is law-oriented, the required level of English for the HIOP is Intermediate-High to Native.


    Regarding the MOOC, it is also only offered in English and requires a minum Intermediate level.

  • Why has the program changed?

    Due to the international crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, since we still don’t know how long will it last and it is our responsibility to keep our scholarship holders safe, we have decided to postpone the deadline for the Tech4Lae registration until June 15th.

  • I applied to the program before the change, do I have to apply again?

    No, your application is still valid for this call.

  • Is anything going to change from the program’s content?

    No, the program will maintain its content without any changes.
