Considering the current situation caused by COVID19 all over the world, our priority is to ensure the health of our students and fulfill the recommendations of each country to fight this pandemic. For that reason, the Santander Georgetown Social Innovation and Financial Inclusion scholarship program will be held 100% online.

Wymagania

Successful applicants will be:

·      Undergraduate and graduate, and postgraduate students from the Santander Universities Network. A diverse cohort is desired, drawing students from the social sciences, history, law, business, technology, engineering, computer science, biomedical sciences, and physical sciences;

·      Fluent in English, both speaking and writing;

·      21 years of age by the start of the workshop

Opis stypendium:

The Georgetown University Santander Partnership on Social Economy is accepting applications from students interested in participating in a two-week, multi-disciplinary virtual course. The workshop will be delivered live / synchronously, and be highly interactive. Therefore, commitment to 100% participation is required of all applicants to the program. The content of the course will focus on key trends affecting social and economic inclusion and ask participants to develop innovative approaches and creative solutions. Students will learn from thought leaders representing diverse institutional perspectives, including academia, policymaking, non-profits, and private enterprise. Within this framework, students will work collaboratively to identify potential technological, commercial, and policy innovations designed to increase access to economic, health, and education resources and opportunities.

Two key themes of the seminar include:

1.      Digital technology is changing the nature of opportunities for marginalized populations, presenting both challenges and opportunities for governments, companies, and individuals.

2.      Innovation by socially-minded enterprises is one of the essential factors to bridging gaps not covered by traditional public-sector models.

Students should expect an interactive and practical learning environment that draws on real-world applications of innovation in addition to virtual classroom-based lectures. Students will gain exposure to policy and practice by connecting to a network of researchers, practitioners, financiers, and policymakers.

The Georgetown University Santander Partnership will cover all the costs of the workshop, including required materials. The course will be delivered via Georgetown’s virtual learning environment, which utilizes the Zoom platform.

General Terms and Conditions for the “Santander-Georgetown Social Innovation and Financial Inclusion”

Objectives of the Program: 52 scholarships will be granted to students interested in participating in a two-week, multi-disciplinary virtual course. The workshop will be delivered live / synchronously, and be highly interactive. Therefore, commitment to 100% participation is required of all applicants to the program.

Target: Undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate students aged over 21, nationals or residents of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Germany, Mexico, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Spain, United Kingdom, United States and Uruguay.

Admissions criteria:

1st phase

Average grade, analysis of the answers provided on the application form, motivation letter (max. 140 characters). The best applicants based on the analysis of the application form will be call to participate to the second phase, providing extra documents.

2nd phase

·      Documents required (academic grades, low-income documents, if applicable)

·      Resume / Curriculum Vitae, including current email address, level of English, and previous as well as current course(s) of study, with anticipated completion dates.

·      An essay (in English) not to exceed 500 words, on the following topic:

In every society, there are challenges that relate to inclusion for marginalized groups. They have limited access to opportunities related to health, education, and economic empowerment. Describe an example of a challenge of limited social inclusion that you have observed, and discuss an idea that holds promise for addressing the challenge.

·      One letter of recommendation in English from a university professor who has taught the applicant.

Selection Process/Agents: The Selection Committee –formed by 1 agent from Georgetown University, 1 agent from Banco Santander S.A., and 1 agent from the Social Impact Area of Santander Universidades from Banco Santander S.A.- will be responsible for the monitoring of the compliance of the previously indicated criteria based upon the personal data of the applicants filled in the application form.

Participants pre-select from the phase 1 will be notified to provide further documents on Tuesday May 5th 11:59 pm GMT+2.

The candidates selected to join the program will be notified Monday June 15th 11:59 pm GMT+2.

Scholarships allocation: The Selection Committee –formed by 1 agent from Georgetown University, 1 agent from Banco Santander S.A., and 1 agent from the Social Impact Area of Santander Universidades from Banco Santander S.A.- will allocate the available scholarships to the candidates. Additionally, it may estimate other selection criteria deemed as convenient in case the number of applications is higher than the number of scholarships available.

Follow up: Once the “Santander-Georgetown Social Innovation and Financial Inclusion” and its corresponding scholarships has been allocated by Georgetown University, this institution will provide Santander through the Becas Santander platform or any other channels detailed information regarding said scholarships, as well as any other information related to the Program and its implementation required for a proper follow up.
